The options in hormone replacement therapy today are mind-boggling. How do you know what is right for you? Did you know that compounding pharmacists are meeting the needs of menopausal women by use of plant-derived, bio-identical hormones? These hormones are appealing to patients because they help to mend a hormonal imbalance with hormones that are identical to those produced in the human body.
At The Medicine Shoppe, our compounding pharmacists can tailor a hormone regimen, which mimics what a female’s body has been doing for the past 50 years or so. All women are not the same, that’s why it’s important to have a choice. Our compounding pharmacists can add value by preparing the medication to “fit” the patient with the appropriate dosage strength and form.
Working in TRIAD with the patient and her physician, The Medicine Shoppe can compound your prescription in dosage forms including capsules, topical creams, suppositories and sublingual troches or lozenges. As you work with your physician and compounding pharmacist, you can choose the dosage form and strength this is best for you.
For more information, call the compounding pharmacists at The Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy, 330-339-4466 or stop by at 551 West High Ave New Philadelphia, OH 44663.

Bio-Identical or "Natural" vs. Synthetic
Bio-Identical means that the hormones are an exact match to the hormones produced by the human body. They could also be called human-identical. These hormones get their start in nature, found in soy beans and wild yams, they can then be easily converted into the exact hormones that the body makes. The body can recognize these bio-identical hormones and uses them just as it would if they were being produced by the ovaries, testes, or adrenal glands. Most side effects seen with bio-identical hormones are associated with incorrect dosing. By making slight variations in the dose, or dosage form, the side effects often disappear.
Synthetic hormones are not easily recognized by the body even though they may produce similar effects. Because they are hundreds of times more potent than the hormones that our bodies make, they are linked to many side effects.
Bio-identical hormone replacement products need to be compounded by a compounding pharmacy, like Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy. Compounding offers you and your physician a choice for individualized hormone treatment.

Women should not have to dread menopause. There are many natural alternatives that are extremely helpful in alleviating problems associated with hormonal changes during menopause. Menopause is the most common stage when women receive Natural Hormone Replacement Therapy. The process should involve natural hormones, not patented hormones because patented hormones usually have artificial additives that can often influence the desired results.
If you are approaching menopause, and are considering hormone replacement, we recommend that you talk to your pharmacist and health care provider about your feelings. Many physicians are not familiar with the "natural" approach. Education is extremely important. Our pharmacists can assist in the education process, of both you and your doctor.
Hormone Replacement Therapy needs to be carefully initiated after a woman's personal history, family history, and current medical situation are reviewed. Every woman is unique and will respond to therapy in her own way; therefore, the selection of hormone(s), dose and dosage form differs from patient to patient. Close monitoring is important to ensure proper dosage adjustments and avoid unnecessary side effects. In order to help women and their doctors, choose the correct dose, dosage or medication, the Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy now offers to its patients private consultations with Pharmacist Brad White. Private consultations allow patients with concerns or questions about Natural Hormone Replacement Therapy to get their questions answered.
