In the journey toward better health and well-being, the guidance of a skilled dietitian can be invaluable. Dietitians are trained experts in nutrition who specialize in helping individuals make meaningful changes to their diet and lifestyle to achieve their health goals. Whether you're looking to lose weight, manage a chronic condition, or simply improve your overall well-being, here's how a dietitian can help you along the way:

1. Personalized Nutrition Plans: One of the greatest strengths of working with a dietitian is the personalized approach they offer. Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, a dietitian will take the time to understand your unique health needs, preferences, and goals. They will then work with you to develop a tailored nutrition plan that fits your lifestyle and supports your objectives.

2. Education and Guidance: Nutrition can be complex, with an overwhelming amount of information available from various sources. A dietitian serves as a trusted source of evidence-based information, cutting through the confusion to provide clear and practical guidance. They can help you understand the principles of healthy eating, decipher food labels, and navigate dining out or grocery shopping with confidence.

3. Behavior Change Support: Changing dietary habits is often easier said than done. A dietitian is skilled in behavior change techniques and can help you overcome barriers and develop strategies for success. Whether it's setting realistic goals, identifying triggers for unhealthy eating habits, or finding ways to stay motivated, a dietitian provides the support and accountability you need to make lasting changes.

4. Managing Chronic Conditions: Many chronic conditions, such as diabetes, heart disease, and gastrointestinal disorders, can be effectively managed through diet and lifestyle modifications. A dietitian can work alongside your healthcare team to develop a nutrition plan tailored to your specific condition, helping to optimize your health outcomes and quality of life.

5. Holistic Approach to Wellness: Beyond just focusing on food, a dietitian takes a holistic approach to wellness, considering factors such as physical activity, sleep, stress management, and overall lifestyle habits. By addressing these interconnected aspects of health, a dietitian helps you achieve a balanced and sustainable approach to well-being.

In conclusion, the role of a dietitian extends far beyond simply telling you what to eat. They are partners in your journey toward better health, offering personalized guidance, education, and support every step of the way. Whether you're striving to lose weight, manage a chronic condition, or simply adopt healthier habits, a dietitian can empower you to make positive changes that last a lifetime. If you're ready to take control of your health and transform your lifestyle, consider reaching out to a registered dietitian today.

Medicare Open Enrollment with Tricia Witts from PrimeTime Health Plan

If you are 65 years old or older, you have been receiving lots of calls, letters, and emails regarding the Medicare Open Enrollment period from October 15 through December 7. What you may not know is that nationally, roughly 70% of Medicare patients do not review their plan during the open enrollment period. That can be scary and leave opportunities to discover unwelcome or unwanted changes in coverage when they visit a doctor, pharmacy, or other provider in the new plan year.

Another fun fact is that Medicare Advantage Plans have become the way that most Medicare Patients receive their Medicare benefits. Around 50% of Medicare beneficiaries chose to enroll in a Medicare Advantage Plan. Advantage Plans became popular because most offer benefits that are not covered by traditional Medicare.

This morning we are fortunate to talk with Trisha Witts from our local five-star advantage plan, PrimeTime Health Plan. PrimeTime is locally owned and when you call, you will be talking to a neighbor or friend to help you understand your Medicare benefits and options.

In this program you can get answers to the following questions about Medicare Open enrollment:

  1. What is the Medicare Annual Election Period?

  2. What happens if I miss the Annual Election Period?

  3. Why is it important to review my plan options?

  4. What is the difference between a Medicare Advantage Plan and a Medicare Supplement?

  5. If I am on an Advantage plan and go on vacation, am I covered?

  6. What is the difference between Medicare Part D and a Medicare Advantage Plan?

  7. What is the donut hole and can I avoid it?

  8. How can I sign up for Primetime Health Plan? Phone 330-363-7407 or 800-577-5804

Mental & Physical Benefits of Quitting Smoking and its Effects

Why You Should Consider Quitting Smoking?

Health Matters with the Medicine Center Pharmacy. I’m your pharmacist, Paul White. We’re glad you joined us. Before we begin, I’d like to thank our sponsors, Aultman Health Systems, Studio Arts & Glass, and Jenior Appraisals and Liquidations.

Today Brad White and I are broadcasting from our administrative offices and our guest is Ashley Everetts, Pulmonary Rehabilitation Lead, Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation at Aultman Deuble Heart and Vascular Hospital.

Are you considering quitting smoking, or is there someone in your life that you want to help quit smoking?  When someone takes the big step of deciding to quit smoking, family, friends, and co-workers can make a huge difference by giving their help and support.

If your friend isn't quite ready to quit, try to see it from their side. For most smokers, cigarettes have been a steady companion for a long time. Some reluctance is normal, and it doesn't mean your friend won't be able to quit for good. First, let your friend know you understand their doubts, then suggest they list their reasons for quitting.

Quitting smoking is a journey and a process, not a single event.  Access resources to get tips on what you can do from the start to help someone quit and to help them “stay quit.”  Plan on being there for the long run and helping them meet the challenges along the way.

This morning we will talk with Ashley about the reasons to quit smoking, managing the mental and physical effects of quitting smoking, and most importantly, how to receive help and support through the process.

We’d like to remind our listeners that today’s program is also available on our podcast which can be downloaded from the app store on your mobile phone. Look for Health Matters with the Medicine Center Pharmacy and you can listen to any of our programs, anytime.

Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT)

Vitality Med Practice & Wellness Solutions of Community Health Nursing

Welcome to Health Matters with the Medicine Center Pharmacy. I’m your pharmacist, Paul White. We’re glad you joined us. Before we begin, I’d like to thank our sponsors, Aultman Health Systems, Studio Arts & Glass, and Jenior Appraisals and Liquidations.

Today Brad and I are broadcasting from our administrative offices and our guest is Marna Revlock, Certified Nurse Practitioner at Vitality Med and Professor of Community Health Nursing at Kent State Stark Campus.

Do you remember a time when you had abundant energy and felt vibrant?  When you slept well, you didn’t need caffeine, you were able to consume foods that didn’t result in weight gain.  If you did gain weight you could make some easy adjustments and lose it fast.  As we age, things change.

Perhaps you are struggling to recall words easily or you are wishing you were experiencing that passionate spark with your spouse or loved one.  Are you wondering what happened?

The Mayo Clinic has published studies that show changes in hormone levels and metabolism as we age. When you were younger, hormones like thyroid, estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, DHEA, and pregnenolone were produced in abundance and in balance, but aging and stress can deplete many of the hormones that kept your body young, healthy, and strong.  The good news is that they can be replaced with Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT).  Bioidentical hormones are not magic, they do not cure all diseases, but they can restore your body to a healthier place, similar to when you were younger. This morning we will talk with Marna about BHRT and the services offered at Vitality Med

Health Matters with the Medicine Center Pharmacy. I’m your pharmacist, Paul White. We’re glad you joined us. It’s the 10th Anniversary of our Health Matters Show and the 45th Anniversary of Medicine Center Pharmacy. Now we are featuring a program about Medicare’s annual open enrollment period which begins October 15. Before we begin, I’d like to thank our sponsors, Aultman Health System, Studio Arts & Glass, and Jenior Appraisals and Liquidations. Today Brad and I are broadcasting from our administrative offices and our guest is Mike Novelli, Sales and Client Retention Specialist with Aultcare.

Medicare Open Enrollment period from October 15 thru December 7. What you may not know is that nationally, roughly 70% of Medicare patients do not review their plan during the open enrollment period. That can be scary and leave an opportunity to discover unwelcome or unwanted changes in coverage when they visit a doctor, pharmacy, or other providers in the new plan year.

Another fun fact is that Medicare Advantage Plans have become the way that most Medicare Patients are receiving their Medicare benefits. In August of 2022, 48% of Medicare beneficiaries chose to enroll in a Medicare Advantage Plan. Advantage Plans became popular because most offer benefits that are not covered by traditional Medicare.

We are fortunate to talk with Mike Novelli, from our local five-star advantage plan, PrimeTime Health Plan.  PrimeTime is locally owned and when you call, you will be talking to a neighbor or friend to help you understand your Medicare benefits and options.

Tune in to learn more about these topics in this program:

  • What is AEP when it comes to Medicare plans?

  • What type of changes do beneficiaries make during AEP?

  • What happens if someone would miss the timeframe to change during AEP?

  • Why is it important to review plan options?

  • What is the benefit of having an Advantage plan over Original Medicare A & B?

  • Are there any disadvantages of having an Advantage plan over Original Medicare A & B?

  • What happens if the doctor is not in the network of the Advantage plan?

  • What happens if anyone is on an Advantage Plan and goes on vacation?

  • What if you have to go into the hospital while out of network?  Is that covered?

  • If I join an Advantage plan and don’t like it, am I stuck with it forever?

  • Explain prescription coverage or Part D coverage.

  • What does it mean to find medication on a formulary?

Thank you to our guest, Mike Novelli, Sales and Client Retention Specialist with Aultcare.  We’d like to remind our listeners if you suspect you have a medical issue, please contact your healthcare provider. Thanks to our sponsors, Aultman Health System, Studio Arts & Glass, and Jenior Appraisals and Liquidations. As always, we thank our listeners for joining us on Health Matters with the Medicine Center Pharmacy.
