Compounding fills the gaps
commercial medications can't

Mass-produced medications are designed for the average patient — not every patient. Compounding exists to solve the problems that fall through the cracks. A prescription from a licensed healthcare provider is required for all compounded medications.

Allergy & Sensitivity

Commercial medications often contain dyes, gluten, lactose, or preservatives that cause reactions. We formulate without them.

Strength Not Available

When the dose your provider needs isn't commercially stocked, compounding makes it possible — exactly to spec.

Discontinued Medications

Manufacturers discontinue products. If your provider decides a medication is still appropriate, compounding may restore access.

Dosage Form Changes

Trouble swallowing tablets? Need a topical instead of oral? Compounding allows the form to match the patient's needs.

frequently asked questions
Compounding explained
Compounding is the preparation of a customized medication for an individual patient based on a licensed prescriber's order. It allows pharmacists to adjust dose strengths, change dosage forms (such as from tablet to cream or sublingual), or remove ingredients that a patient cannot tolerate. Compounded medications are not FDA-approved products and are prepared for specific patients, not for general distribution.
Yes — always. Every compounded medication we prepare requires a valid prescription from a licensed healthcare provider. We do not dispense compounded medications without a prescription and do not provide compounded drugs for general office use without proper documentation.
The Coalition for Compounding Excellence (CCE) is an independent accrediting body that evaluates non-sterile compounding pharmacies against rigorous quality and safety standards. Our New Philadelphia facility has earned CCE Accreditation, which means we've demonstrated compliance with policies, procedures, and quality systems that go beyond minimum state board requirements. Accreditation is voluntary — and it's how we hold ourselves accountable.
Non-sterile compounding refers to the preparation of medications that are not required to be sterile — such as oral capsules, creams, troches, and sublingual suspensions. This is distinct from sterile compounding (injectables, eye drops, IV preparations), which requires a separate facility and certification. Medicine Center Pharmacy's New Philadelphia lab is a CCE-Accredited non-sterile compounding facility. We do not compound injectable medications.
Your healthcare provider sends a prescription to our New Philadelphia location (fax: 330-339-9007, phone: 330-339-4466, email: philly@medshoprx.com). We review the order, prepare your formulation, and contact you when it's ready. Prescribers new to working with us can access our Provider Learning Center for clinical references and ordering information.
Coverage varies significantly by insurance plan and medication type. Many compounded medications are not covered by standard prescription insurance. We recommend contacting your insurance provider directly. Our team can discuss payment options and help you understand what to expect before your medication is prepared. Some patients with HSA or FSA accounts may be able to apply those funds to compounded prescriptions.
Yes. Medicine Center Pharmacy is licensed to serve patients and coordinate with prescribers in both Ohio and Pennsylvania. Providers in western Pennsylvania frequently work with our New Philadelphia compounding team. Contact our New Philadelphia location to confirm current licensing and coordination options.
