When standard medications fall short

Commercial veterinary drugs are manufactured in standard doses for average-sized animals. But your patients aren't average. A 4-lb cat requires a fraction of the dose a 90-lb dog needs. An exotic bird won't accept a pill. A horse needs concentrations unavailable on the shelf. Compounding closes the gap — precisely dosed, in a form the animal will actually accept, on a timeline that works for your practice.

Our compounding pharmacists work directly with prescribing veterinarians to understand what commercial products can't deliver, then prepare formulations specifically for each patient. No more cutting tablets or approximating doses.

Where compounding solves the problem

  • 💊
    Discontinued or Unavailable Medications

When a manufacturer discontinues a product your patients depend on, we compound it — same active ingredient, same or adjusted strength, in a form your patient can receive.

  • ⚖️
    Non-Standard Dosing

A 3-lb cat doesn't need the same dose as a 12-lb cat. We prepare the exact strength you prescribe — no more estimating based on available tablet sizes.

  • 🍖
    Palatability & Compliance

Flavoring transforms a rejected pill into a treat. Clients report dramatically better compliance when medications taste like food the animal already loves.

  • 🔬
    Drug Combinations

Combine two or more compatible medications into a single preparation. Simplifies administration schedules and reduces owner error for multi-drug protocols.

  • 🚫
    Allergy-Sensitive Formulations

Remove dyes, fillers, or excipients that trigger reactions. We build from the active drug up, using only what's necessary for the patient.

quality & accreditation

The standard your patients deserve

CCE-Accredited Non-Sterile Compounding Laboratory

Our New Philadelphia compounding hub holds CCE Accreditation — a third-party review of our processes, documentation, and quality standards. Not every pharmacy that "compounds" has earned this designation. Accreditation means our lab is held to a verified standard, not self-reported.

All compounding is performed by licensed pharmacists and pharmacy technicians at our New Philadelphia lab (551 West High Ave, New Philadelphia OH 44663). We do not subcontract compounding to outside facilities.

frequently asked questions

Answers for vets and pet owners

No. We ship compounded veterinary medications to clients throughout Ohio. The veterinarian sends us the prescription; the client's medication ships directly to their home or can be picked up at our New Philadelphia location.
Yes. A valid prescription from a licensed veterinarian is required for all compounded medications. We cannot compound without one, regardless of species or medication type.
Call us at 330-339-4466, fax to 330-339-9007, or email philly@medshoprx.com. Include patient name, species, weight, medication name, dose, dosage form, instructions, and your DEA number if applicable. We'll follow up the same business day.
We offer a range of flavoring options including chicken, beef, tuna, bacon, peanut butter, and others depending on the dosage form. Ask our pharmacist which flavor is most compatible with the specific formulation your patient needs.
Compounding from commercially available medications is subject to regulatory guidelines. We work within those guidelines and will let you know if your request falls outside what we can prepare. When a commercial product exists and is appropriate, we may recommend it. When compounding is the better clinical choice — different dose, different form, better compliance — that's our specialty.
Most veterinary compounds are prepared within 1–2 business days once we have a valid prescription and all necessary information. Complex formulations or those requiring specialty ingredients may take longer — we'll communicate estimated timing upfront.
Yes, with a valid veterinary prescription. We've prepared formulations for a wide range of species. Contact our New Philadelphia compounding team to discuss the specific requirements for your patient.
