Thyroid therapy built around you
Commercial thyroid medications come in fixed doses and limited formulations. When those don't fit, we compound — precise T4/T3 combinations, sustained-release T3, and dye-free options prepared specifically for your prescription.

who we help
Standard therapy doesn't work for everyone
If your labs read "normal" but you still feel off — fatigued, foggy, cold, or struggling with weight — you may be a candidate for a customized thyroid formulation. These are the patients we most often help.
Still symptomatic on levothyroxine
TSH in range but fatigue, weight gain, and brain fog persist. May have a conversion issue — T4 not converting efficiently to active T3.
Sensitive to commercial T3
Cytomel causes heart racing, anxiety, or energy crashes. Sustained-release compounded T3 delivers steady levels without the peaks.
Hashimoto's thyroiditis
An autoimmune condition requiring more than hormone replacement alone. Often benefits from LDN alongside thyroid therapy to address immune activity.
Dye or filler sensitivities
Many commercial thyroid tablets contain dyes, fillers, or lactose that cause reactions. We compound dye-free, filler-free formulations to your specification.
Needs a non-standard dose or ratio
Commercial strengths come in fixed increments. If your prescriber needs a precise ratio of T4 to T3, we can compound it exactly.
Perimenopause & thyroid overlap
Hormonal shifts during perimenopause can alter thyroid function. We work with BHRT-prescribing providers to coordinate thyroid and hormone therapy.
what we compound
Custom thyroid formulations
All thyroid compounding is performed at our New Philadelphia location, our CCE-Accredited non-sterile compounding hub. A valid prescription is required for all formulations.
Combination
Custom T4/T3 Capsules
A single capsule containing both T4 and T3 in a prescriber-specified ratio — more closely mirroring what a healthy thyroid naturally produces than T4-only therapy.
✓ Addresses conversion problems at the source
Sustained Release
Sustained-Release T3
Slow-release T3 that delivers steady levels over the day — avoiding the peaks and crashes of immediate-release commercial T3. Useful for patients sensitive to standard Cytomel dosing.
✓ Avoids energy spikes and heart racing
Specialty
Dye-Free & Filler-Free
Thyroid capsules prepared without common dyes, fillers, or lactose found in commercial tablets. Ideal for patients with sensitivities or absorption concerns tied to inactive ingredients.
✓ Clean formulation, no unnecessary excipients
Hashimoto's Add-On
Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN) for Autoimmune Thyroid
For patients with Hashimoto's, emerging clinical data suggests LDN may help reduce TPO and TgAb antibody levels and calm immune-driven thyroid destruction — addressing root cause, not just replacing hormone. LDN is used off-label and requires a prescription. Learn more about LDN →

common questions
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a prescription for compounded thyroid medication?
Yes. All compounded thyroid formulations — including T4/T3 combination capsules, sustained-release T3, and dye-free preparations — require a valid prescription from a licensed healthcare provider. We cannot compound without one.
Is compounded thyroid medication FDA-approved?
No. Compounded medications are not FDA-approved products. They are custom-prepared for individual patients based on a prescriber's order. Compounding is legal and regulated under state pharmacy board oversight and federal guidelines, but compounded formulations are not the same as, nor interchangeable with, FDA-approved drugs.
Will insurance cover compounded thyroid medication?
Coverage varies. Most commercial insurance plans do not cover compounded medications, though some FSA and HSA accounts can be used. We recommend checking with your plan directly. Our team can provide pricing before your prescription is filled.
My TSH is normal but I still feel bad. Can compounded thyroid help?
That's a conversation to have with your prescriber — we can't determine whether a compounded formulation is right for you. What we can say is that TSH alone doesn't measure how much active T3 your cells are receiving. A complete thyroid panel including Free T3, Free T4, Reverse T3, and antibody markers gives a more complete picture. Download our free Thyroid Lab Guide for a plain-language explanation of what each marker means.
How long does it take to fill a compounded thyroid prescription?
Our typical turnaround is 24–48 hours after we receive a valid, complete prescription. If your provider is sending it for the first time, allow a little extra time for any formula questions between our pharmacists and your provider's office.
Do you ship compounded thyroid medication?
Yes. We ship to patients in Ohio and Pennsylvania. Contact our New Philadelphia location at 330-339-4466 or philly@medshoprx.com to ask about shipping options for your specific formulation.
What is your accreditation?
Our New Philadelphia compounding lab is CCE-Accredited for non-sterile compounding. CCE (Compounding Center for Excellence) accreditation involves independent third-party review of our facilities, processes, and quality standards. We are not PCAB-accredited.
