More than 14 million new cases of cancer are diagnosed globally each year; radiation therapy (RT) has the potential to improve the rates of cure for 3.5 million people and provide palliative relief for an additional 3.5 million people. These conservative estimates are based on the fact that approximately 50 percent of all cancer patients can benefit from Radiation Therapy in the management of their disease.

We will talk with Dr. Olyejar and Tina about radiation treatments for cancer as well as the exciting news they have to share about the opening of Aultman’s new cancer center.

Public health professionals try to prevent problems from happening or recurring through implementing educational programs, recommending policies, administering services, and conducting research—in contrast to clinical professionals like doctors and nurses, who focus primarily on treating individuals after they become sick or injured. Public health also works to limit health disparities.

A large part of public health is promoting health care equity, quality, and accessibility. James M. Adams and the staff of Canton City Board of Health deserve our thanks and appreciation for all they do to keep us and our community healthy.
